On August 19th, 2024, Balenciaga will open a new store in São Paulo’s Iguatemi
shopping center, Brazil’s first mall in operation. The 300-square meter store offers
the latest in Balenciaga men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, shoes, bags,
accessories, eyewear, and jewelry.
The store’s design follows the brand’s experiential Raw Architecture concept, conceived to question spatial elements of luxury. Construction is careful to respect existing elements, and inherently resulting in the use of fewer raw materials, in keeping with Balenciaga’s commitment to sustainable methods.
Vast brushed concrete floors resemble sidewalk tiles, fitted with metal grates, while walls and shelving units are made of untreated concrete slabs, creating the illusion of a liminal indoor/outdoor space. Ceiling grids, industrial lighting systems, and other technical fixtures are visible overhead. Aged aluminum tables and benches using locally made vegan alternative of leather are looking pre-worn. Anodized metal, underlit shelving and a light box punctuate the space with warmth and modernity.
