BALENCIAGA FRAGRANCE COLLECTION

1947

In 1947, Balenciaga launched its first fragrance, Le Dix (pronounced /lə dis/), meaning “The 10”, named in reference to the House’s address at 10 Avenue Georges V in Paris.

Le Dix was a floral aldehyde with notes of bergamot, jasmine, rose, iris, and violet. Its elegance appealed to post-war clientele. The bottle, initially square and compact, would later take on an oval fluted shape with a domed stopper, also fluted.

Between 1949 and 1962, three more perfumes were introduced under Cristóbal Balenciaga’s direction: La Fuite des Heures, a woody, amber-laced chypre by Germaine Cellier; Eau de Balenciaga, released in 1954; and Quadrille.
Though rooted in the tastes of their time more than the singular creativity of the couturier himself, these early scents helped shape the Maison’s identity during its formative years.

Scanned to match every detail, the flacon was faithfully reproduced—now refillable, featuring a globular glass cap and handtied ribbon. The packaging, etched with the patina of age, revives the design of the original box, with its logotype resurfacing within Balenciaga’s signature industrial grey—a metaphor for the fusion of past and present, and a testament to the trace of time.

This spirit is echoed by the reopening of the Balenciaga Fragrance Store at 10 Avenue George V, returning fragrance to the historic address that first inspired Le Dix.
