This Balenciaga product is made using synthetic fibers. This material is susceptible to wear and damage even from everyday use. This backpack is made from a blend of nylon and Bananatex®, a fiber created entirely from Abacá, a variety of banana plant.
Cultivated in the Philippine highlands, Abacá is self-sufficient, requiring no pesticides, fertilizer, or extra water. These banana plants also contribute to reforestation in areas logged or once eroded by monocultural cultivation, to enhance biodiversity and to support the improvement of the economic prosperity of local smallholder farmers. Bananatex® is Cradle to Cradle Certified® Gold, one of the highest international standards for circular economy and eco-design.
